The Leaning Tower of Pizza!
The Hippos Reading group have been working on gaining information from their reading and presenting it in an interesting way. After creating questions about the Eiffel Tower then gathering very interesting information to answer these questions, the children presented their findings on a poster. They then decided that it would be a great idea to investigate towers further through the construction of their own tower. We found some pictures of various towers to view and then set to work. Here is the process that the tower building went through.
We spent a lot of our time helping each other with the construction.
These are the examples of towers we studied to make our own tower.
We spent a lot of our time helping each other with the construction.
We used triangles as our main support structure. We learn about these by looking at the pictures of the towers and Mrs Pendergrast told us they are one of the strongest shape in the world.
The tower gets taller, but wobbles a bit so the children problem solve and come up with a great solution!
Then the tower became so tall, we had to take it outside to continue to work on it.
Lastly, we attached the final piece to become our Leaning Tower of Pizza.
What do you think?
